Drugs causing Acne

Surely we know how various items can cause skin reactions. We all know people who break out when stung by bees, or people who get rashes when they eat certain foods. It's no surprise that there are some drugs that cause our oil glands to get a little exuberant, and to cause pimples.

It's important to remember that these drugs are often critical for your health. If acne is a side effect you're getting from a prescribed drug, we can certainly find ways to help minimize that. Never try to "fix" your acne by stopping a doctor's prescription.

Barbituates
Barbitutes can often become quite addictive. Barbituates are used as sedatives. They're known as "downers". While most doctors no longer prescribe barbituates because of the addictive problems, they are still used in certain situations to fight anxiety and stress.

Corticosteroids
In essence, corticosteroids are fake hormones. Since we know that real hormones are usually what bring on acne, it makes sense that fake hormones cause pretty much the same problem. Corticone is an actual hormone that your body makes, and is included in this set of drugs. Corticosteroids are used to help people with asthma, eczema, hives, and other types of infections. Corticosteroids are really important to keep many people healthy.

Lithium
Lithium is traditionally used to handle depression and bipolar problems. It helps to regulate how nerves communicate with each other.

If you're taking one of these drugs, then the acne you're seeing might easily be a result of it. You can either chat with your doctor about alternatives, or plow on and read this site to find solutions to this side effect.
