Winter itch (sometimes spelled winteritch) is a common condition caused by dryness of the skin (integument). Xenoderma is another term for skin dryness.

Skin becomes dry in winter due to the low relative humidity of cold air which has been heated.

A tentative diagnosis of winter itch can be made if the itch (pruritis) occurs only in cold weather. Itching of skin can be caused by a variety of other medical conditions, so consultation with a medical professional is advised.
