She shared a great example of what we should do when we face a layoff meeting. Most people usually do not remember what they can take based on the labor contract.

Below example shows what we should do to maximize what you can take based on your value / contribution to the company.

"Thanks for the offer. I'll think about it." 

That's all she said in the layoff meeting.

48 hours later, this email doubled her severance package.

After reviewing many successful severance negotiations, here's the exact template that works:

The Psychology First: 
• Wait 48 hours before sending 
• Use a professional, non-emotional tone 
• Focus on value, not sympathy 
• Be confident, not aggressive

The Template:
"Dear [Name],
Thank you for the severance offer of [X] weeks. After reviewing my contributions and tenure with [Company], I would like to propose the following adjustments:

1. Severance: [X] months of salary continuation [Your achievements, projects, revenue generated]

Example: "During my time at [Company], I led [specific project],
which resulted in [measurable result, e.g., $X in revenue or X% efficiency improvement].”

2. Benefits: Extended health coverage through [date] [Impact on family/personal situation]

Example: "Given my family’s reliance on health coverage, extending benefits until [specific date] would provide critical support during this transition.”

3. Additional Considerations:
• Earned bonus for [period]
• Accelerated vesting of [X] shares
• Outplacement services
• Agreed-upon reference letter

4. Conclusion: "I value my time at [Company] and believe this package better reflects my contributions and the terms of my departure.

Please let me know when we can discuss these adjustments.
Best regards, [Your name]"

• Send morning, mid-week 
• Attach supporting documentation 
• CC relevant decision-makers 
• Follow up in 72 hours if no response
