Jumong, also known as King Dongmyeong, was a legendary figure in Korean history and folklore. He is often credited as the founder of the ancient Korean kingdom of Goguryeo, one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, which existed from around 37 BCE to 668 CE.

According to legend, Jumong was born to Hae Mo-su, a prominent leader of the Buyeo tribe, and Lady Yuhwa, a daughter of the river deity Habaek. His birth was foretold to bring great fortune to the tribe. However, his father faced political challenges and was eventually killed, prompting Lady Yuhwa to flee with her young son.

Jumong grew up in the wilderness, honing his skills as a warrior and leader. He eventually founded the kingdom of Goguryeo, consolidating various tribes and territories under his rule. His leadership was characterized by military prowess, diplomatic acumen, and a vision for a united Korean nation.

One of the most famous episodes in Jumong's life is his founding of the capital city of Goguryeo, which he named Jolbon. This event marked the beginning of Goguryeo's rise as a major power in East Asia.

Jumong's legacy is celebrated in Korean culture through various mediums, including historical texts, folklore, television dramas, and films. He is revered as a national hero who played a crucial role in shaping Korea's early history.
